God Gave You Power, Don’t Abuse It…

Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you. But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.” (Luke 10:19, 20 NLT)

It’s the typical fight scenario…. A guy gets into a fight and starts winning and the other guy starts to walk away… And like every competitive man, when you start winning you want to give the gloating jab “That’s right…Walk away! You got nothin on me….”

Or the guy who gets the promotion over the other guy… Just wants to rub it in their face a little bit because it feels good.

You feel the power over that person. You are victorious!

Jesus gives an interesting warning to the 72 Christ followers who come to tell him the work they have done. But as they come to Jesus in this moment, they come with a heart longing for power. They have a hunger and passion to rule over the enemy. But Jesus simply reminds them of where that power comes from. Jesus gives the power and authority. He makes us capable of defeating the enemy. Before Jesus, we were losing. With Jesus, we have already won. But don’t gloat and flaunt your power as if you have accomplished something great. Jesus was the one who did the work and decided to share it with you.

So as you live your life for Jesus, or as you lead others around you toward him, remember where your power comes from and be thankful for the relationship you have with Jesus.

God gave you the power, don’t abuse it. USE IT!
